EuroCrime organizes a Panel Session and a Poster Presentation during Eurocrim2016 – 16th Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology (ESC), 21/24 September 2016, Munster, Germany

In the context of Eurocrim2016, EuroCrime organizes a Session during Panel 5, to be held of 22th September at 5.30 pm. The session is the number 5.5 and the title is: “The EU funded research and the Societal Challenges pillar. Different challenges, different approaches” and it is chaired by Dr. Silvia Ciotti. The aim is to analyze the objectives, scientific foundations, expected impact and results of three ongoing projects funded under the EU Societal Challenges pillar: namely, the MARGIN Project (https://marginproject.eu/), the CITY.RISKS Project (https://project.cityrisks.eu/) and the SOURCE – Social Security Network Project (https://societalsecurity.net/).

Even if differing from each other, the three projects address specific challenges in the field of security priorities in Europe by a social or societal viewpoint. Connections, links, best practices and synergies of the EU funded security and social research will be presented and analysed. The first outcomes of the three projects will be presented as well.

The session will be composed by the following presentations:

1. Good practices in integrating police statistics and crime victimisation surveys. Practical examples from the MARGIN project – By Francesc Guillén Lasierra (Generalitat of Catalonia, Ministry of Interior, Barcelona, Spain);
2. MARGIN project: reducing insecurity among different demographic and socioeconomic groups – By Riccardo Valente (University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain);
3. Fear of crime and Perceptions of Security – By Reinhard Kreissl (VICESSE, Wien, Austria);
4. Avoiding and mitigating safety risks in urban environments – By Ejona Sauli (SYNYO GmbH, Vienna, Austria);
5. The Ethics dimension in EU funded projects. From informed consent and data protection to the potential risk of double victimization – By Silvia Ciotti (EuroCrime – Research, Training and Consulting SrL, Florence, Italy).

Moreover, in the same context EuroCrime organizes a Poster Presentation, to be held on the 22th September at 7pm. The tile is “Tackle Insecurity in Marginalized Areas – MARGIN Project” and it will be presented by Filippo Balistreri (Eurocrime – Research, Training and Consulting srl, Florence, Italy) and by Akos Szigeti (Hungarian National Institute of Criminology (OKRI), Budapest, Hungary).
