Target

Managers, directors, and head of unit of small, medium and large commercial distribution companies. Franchise store managers. Store security officers. Commercial distribution employees, from warehouse and storage services, to logistics, administrative staff and staff working in areas open to the public. Managers of shopping centres, outlets, shopping malls, commercial distribution chains in general.

Objectives

The course aims at providing knowledge and tools to foster a robust and updated competence for the management of security issues in commercial companies and selling points. Training will cover all aspects of security, from the public areas (with goods on display and free access), till storehouses, external areas, offices and their equipment, personnel and consumers areas. A specific focus will be on goods and specific issues regarding them: inventory differences, and shopliftings. The course will address all the legal issues connected to the respect of the GDPR rules and the privacy laws (as in case of video surveillance and CCTVs use), security of personnel, and of consumers. Particular attention will be dedicated to the behavioral approach in case of critical events inside shopping areas (as shoplifting and robbery).

Programme

Part I - 1 day

– Security issues in selling points. Different approaches in relation to the different personnel’s role (from managers to staff in charge of security)
– Surveillance and control of selling points. General issues concerning different selling points, goods, storehouse infrastructures and transport means
– Fundamentals on civil and criminal laws relevant in the addressed sector
– Security issues concerning structural, logistics, distributional, and organizational aspects of different commercial infrastructures. Inventory differences and the shoplifting phenomenon. Possible solutions offered by the criminological prevention (e.g. situational prevention). Procedures and technical solutions: detailed analysis of different organizational assets and infrastructures
– Practical activity and case study

Part II - 1 day

– Prevention of the inventory differences: organizational aspects, procedures, and control activities
– The shoplifting. Definition and prevention
– Video-surveillance, CCTVS, and privacy and identification. The GDPR and other privacy laws and regulations. Specific focus on internal (e.g. on employees) and external controls (e.g. on consumers). Legal aspects connected to different technological solutions, tools, and procedures and techniques – Management of critical situations in selling points without a dedicated security plan and an appointed security staff. Specific focus on psychological and behavioral issues. Fundamentals of conflict resolution and problem solving
– Valorization of own personal competences and knowledge in managing critical situations, with a focus on prevention activities and on the legal risks in not addressing correctly security issues
– Practical activity and case study

Training method

The workshop can be delivered both remotely/on line, or entirely or partially in-person.

Training material

At the end of the workshop, the slides and PowerPoint presentations will be delivered in electronic format to the attendees. During the workshop, web pages and useful links relating to the different parts of the programme will be provided, and used as a fundamental support for the practical activities and exercises.

Duration

12 hours. Upon request, it is possible to hold shorter workshops to explore one or more topics of the programme.
